Help Windmill Staff After Fire

During the night of Monday, January 24, 2022, a fire broke out in The Windmill Cafe in Savage , MN causing significant damage to the interior of the building.

Thankfully nobody was hurt, but the damage is extensive. The restaurant is closed until further notice leaving owners Kari Whetsel and Adam Langfeld along with 9 full and part-time employees out of work for months. 

 

 

We’re raising money to help with lost wages for the entire staff during the closure and any rebuilding costs not covered by insurance.

This is a devastating loss not just for the people who work at The Windmill, but for the entire community. The Windmill is an old-fashioned diner serving homestyle breakfast & lunch classics since 1972.

 

The Windmill has been a family-operated business since 2008 when our parents ran it. When they retired they sold it to our longtime friends Kari and Adam in January 2020.

 

The past two years have been hard on the restaurant industry, with nearly 100 restaurants closing permanently in the Twin Cities alone.

 

Despite the four-week shut down and myriad restrictions caused by COVID, this mom & pop operation has weathered the storm. From pivoting to take-out orders to serving diners outside, they’ve come up with innovative ideas to keep their workers employed, the business running, and serve the people of Savage and surrounding areas the tastiest breakfast around .
