Help with Brooklyn's Vet Bills & Surgery Costs
Hi my name is Dan and I'm raising money to pay for my dog Brooklyn's vet bills. She had two emergency surgeries and had to stay in the hospital for over a week, which cost a total of $22,110.
All of her treatment and surgeries needed to be paid for up front. She and I were incredibly fortunate to receive multiple loans from family and friends to cover these costs so she could get the life-saving care she needed. All donated funds will be used to pay back the loans that were used to pay for her treatments.
About us:
I am a special education teacher in Oakland. Brooklyn is a four year old Pitbull terrier and the absolute sweetest, friendliest dog you could ever meet. I adopted her from a shelter when she was about a year old and she has been bringing me and those around me so much joy ever since. She greets everyone happily with floppy ears, a licking tongue, and a waggly butt. Her sweet, playful, curious demeanor attracts the attention of small children at the park, whom she treats with an unmatched level of patience and gentleness. She plops down at the feet of strangers who clearly want to give her affection, while also contentedly walking by those who haven't yet realized that Pitbulls are the best. Brooklyn is all about hikes, balls, kisses, and snuggling.
Did I mention that Brooklyn loves playing fetch?
Sometimes one ball is not enough for her.
On June 21st, Brooklyn was admitted to the hospital and the next day it was discovered that she needed emergency surgery to remove an obstruction from her stomach and intestine. The surgery went well but she did not recover as expected. She developed sepsis and needed a second emergency surgery on June 27th. At this point, I didn't know if she would make it. Luckily the surgeon was able to find the source of infection and removed it. She remained in the hospital for three more days, and I was so happy to be able to bring her home on June 30th.
I missed Brooklyn so much while she was in the hospital,
but thankfully we were able to have private visits often.
Brooklyn is on the path to recovery, each day getting a little more energetic, and slowly returning to her fun-loving self. She will hopefully be able to get the staples removed from her healing incision in about a week.
The hospital staff were so great about sending me picture updates.
Brooklyn finally comes home from the hospital.
Brooklyn means the world to me. I was such a different person before she came into my life. Honestly, love and joy were not altogether familiar to me before her. I love her so much and most people around me are very aware of this fact. I talk about her quite a bit ;-)
I feel so incredibly lucky to have her. She truly is a special dog and everyone who meets her knows this. She's so sweet and friendly, but also so patient and gentle. She has so much personality! She never minds going places like the pet store or the vet. She loves all the attention she gets and has a friendly snuggle and a lick for everyone.
I never hesitated for a moment, at each stage of her treatment. Brooklyn is my best friend. I'd do anything for her.
I ask that if you are able to give anything at all, it will be appreciated. The total is quite large, but we'll make it somehow. Every little bit helps. I continue to be amazed by people's generosity. Whether I am asking for books for my students or help with Brooklyn, I never fall short of finding people who are so eager to contribute.
I am so grateful that we never have to go through hardship alone.
I pretend like I don't like her slobbery kisses but we all know that's not true.
Brooklyn shares her gratitude.
