Help with Conner’s ICU Medical Expenses
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Erin and I am fundraising on behalf of my brother-in-law Conner and my sister, Emily.
On Thursday night, 7/19, around 11 PM, Emily and Conner were getting ready to go to bed after watching TV when Conner suddenly began slurring his words and was very confused. Emily called 911, but EMS did not recommend an ambulance. Emily still very concerned at his behavior, essentially carried him to the car and got him to the emergency room. Conner’s doctors later told Emily that this decision saved his life.
Around 4:30 AM in the emergency room, Conner had to be intubated and was transferred to the ICU and put on mechanical ventilation. Conner stayed in the ICU on a ventilator for multiple days and the status of his neurological function was in question at that time.
Thankfully, Conner has since been removed from sedation and has deemed to be neurologically intact. He was moved to the neurology floor at the hospital where he has had significant further testing.
The providers in the hospital have been able to rule out many scary causes of what Conner experienced, including infection, stroke, aneurysm, seizure, and brain tumor. They did incidentally find a hole in his heart, but they are uncertain if this played a role in what he experienced. While being able to rule out many things is good news, it also leaves us with a lot of questions as to what caused all of this.
Following discharge from the hospital, Conner is going to have a long road ahead of him that will likely involve multiple specialists as they look further into causes and monitor his care.
While insurance is covering the bulk of their hospital stay, Conner and Emily are still looking at thousands of dollars of medical expenses and lost wages.
Conner is going into his last year of Law School and Emily is a high school English teacher.
With your generous support, we can alleviate the burden of these remaining as well as future medical expenses and help Conner and Emily focus on their bright futures in law and education. Every contribution counts and will make a significant difference in their lives. Thank you for your kindness and compassion.
