Help with Funeral Costs for my Mom, Connie Mecca
As many are already aware, my Mom, Constance "Connie" Mecca, passed away on January 5. While she had been living in long-term nursing care for several years, her rapid decline and passing was not expected at this time. The photo posted here was taken on Christmas Day, and Mom was doing well at that point, with no indication of what was to come just days later.
I have also experienced unanticipated difficulties during this past year. First, heart issues that required two weeks in the hospital, and three separate procedures, followed by being laid off from my job. While I have recovered from the heart issues, with a few restrictions, I have spent over six months searching for work. I have filed over 70 applications during this time, and have had many interviews, but have received no offers as of yet. After six months, Unemployment benefits are exhausted, thus leaving me in a very precarious position, unable to do what I would have wanted to do for my Mom.
As my Mom was on Medicaid/Title 19 to enable her to receive the long-term care she required, all assets were required to be turned over to the State of Connecticut long ago, including her life insurance policy. The "Burial Contract" allowed under Title 19 is not sufficient to provide even a minimally proper funeral, and covers only the physical burial itself, no services, no viewing, not even the embalming, or the headstone. I could not, in good conscience, allow my Mom to have such an inappropriate ending.
With the cooperation of the funeral home, and some initial assistance, I have been able to arrange for a basic proper wake and funeral services to take place, as my Mom deserves and would have wanted. However, further assistance is needed here to help cover these costs.
On behalf of my Mom, and me, my heart-felt thanks.
