Help With Legal Defense Against SLAPP Suit
Following the January 6th insurrection at the US Capitol, it came to my attention that a local gym owner who'd hosted two pro-Trump rallies (with Trump as a guest), gotten himself appointed to a Presidential fitness council, run a pro-Trump PAC, and solicited donations to overturn the election, had arranged for three bus-loads of Trump supporters to travel to DC in the middle of a pandemic to attend the "stop the steal" rally that ended with the insurrection on the capitol.
The buses left from his athletic club.
Over 7000 local community members signed a MoveOn.org petition asking community organizations to remove themselves from his "Community Partners" page. Most did, and the owner was forced to end that program.
Now, he is suing MoveOn.org and me personally for alleged "defamation."
This is a bullying tactic; it is a meritless SLAPP (Strategic Lawsuit Against Political Participation) case. However, even meritless cases cost money to defend. That is what this man counts on.
Let's show him that bullies don't prevail.
Please help to defray the legal costs to defend against this assault on Democracy.
