Help with Levi's healing journey

What happened to Levi?

My sweet, sassy, active seven-year-old nephew Levi had a very scary trampoline accident on Monday, landing on his neck and resulting in a dissected carotid artery which is extremely serious and rare in children. It can be difficult to diagnose and, if untreated, there’s a serious risk of him having a stroke or aneurysm.

He remains at CHEO for now, in a stroke prevention protocol and I am starting this fundraiser to help my nephew and his parents with the many unexpected costs related to his recovery, from gas and parking for the daily trips with two vehicles to the hospital (they live 45 mins away), food, compensation for loss of work (his dad, Geoff, is in school right now so without benefits and wages), as well as various elements of ongoing care for Levi for the long rehab and recovery journey ahead.

Our Doctor at CHEO said that in more than 30 years of working trauma, he has never seen a case like this, but his instincts were spot-on. After the diagnosis, several other Doctors and residents came to see Levi and listen to his neck to learn what to look for.

We are so grateful for all the support we have received from the amazing staff at CHEO and family, friends and colleagues who have reached out. The need for age restrictions and strong regulation for recreational backyard trampolines is long overdue.
