Lucy Vela-Barnes- Support the Family

Many hearts are broken as we all try to wrap our minds around the tragic and unexpected loss of Lucy Vela-Barnes. Lucy was a loving sister, a loyal friend to many, a beloved aunt and great-aunt, a dedicated mother to her children, and a cherished grandmother.  She leaves behind three daughters, Monica, Erika and Veronica, and many loved ones and extended family members.

 She will forever be remembered by her generous spirit, incredible work ethic, and her joyous laugh. Lucy has touched the lives of everyone she's ever met, and this devastating loss has left the family in shock and sorrow.  

Lucy had been looking forward to visiting her daughter and grandson in Missouri the week of her passing, but her life was cut short and taken from her.  The family appreciates your thoughts, prayers and support in this time of crisis.  Donated funds will help Lucy’s daughters settle her accounts and help cover burial costs, attorney fees, and other unforeseen expenses.

Lucy Vela-Barnes Obituary

 

Lucy was a bright, tenacious soul who gave to everyone in her life and who loved deeply and unconditionally. She had a beautiful servant heart and spent her entire life seeking after God’s own heart.

 

Lucy spent close to 40 years working full time in software support and computer programming. She loved gardening, baking, sewing, crafting, cycling and spending time with her siblings, children, grandchildren, and church family. She was a longtime Astros fan and also loved cheering on the UH Cougars.

Lucy logged hundreds of miles on her bike riding and training with her Traveling Light Christian Cycling Team. She was an extremely gifted seamstress who brought joy and comfort to so many through her beautiful custom creations. She made countless baby gift sets for so many growing families and also enjoyed making dog blankets, beds and playmats for her and her families’ furbabies.

 

Lucy is survived by her daughters Monica, Erika, and Veronica; grandchildren Oliver, Jameson and Alexandra; and by four siblings.

Lucy will be tremendously missed by her family and many friends. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers during this most difficult time.
