Help With Marianne's Cancer Treatment Expenses

Donation protected
Hi there, my name is Katie Savala and I'm fundraising on behalf of my mom, Marianne Savala.

In May 2023, after struggling with mysterious abdominal pains for seven months and following a procedure to surgically remove a malignant ovarian cyst, my mother was officially diagnosed with Stage 1 Mucinous Carcinoma. During the initial removal surgery, the cyst unfortunately burst and spread dangerous cancerous cells throughout my mom's abdomen. Following this surgery to remove the initial tumor, and extensive out-of-state consultation, medical professionals recommended several stages of chemotherapy to ensure that any remaining cancerous cells are completely eliminated. Thankfully, despite being a major cancer, the outlook is extremely positive. After completing successful rounds of chemotherapy, we expect my mom to say goodbye to her cancer forever.

This fundraiser is to cover the costs of chemotherapy, in addition to the other diagnostic and consultant medical treatment my mother has received this summer. The estimated post-insurance out-of-pocket cost for her treatment is around $10,000. All funds received will be used to relieve the burden of these medical bills.

Our family does not come from wealth, and my mother works a humble and generous job as social worker helping displaced refugees. On our own, my family does not have the ability to adequately cover the costs of this life-saving care with any sort of ease. My mother is young, only 53 years old, and has a long life ahead of her. We'd like to ease the burden as much as possible so that she can dedicate her time to recovery and being a loving grandmother to my nephews, Fredrick and George.

For her entire life, my mom has been strong, persistent, and positive. Even cancer hasn't dimmed her bright outlook. On July 20th, 2023, my mom began her first round of chemotherapy treatment. She is expected to undergo five more treatments every 21 days to ensure the elimination of her cancer. Chemotherapy is a notoriously difficult process, both physically and mentally, and my mom and the rest of our family are very much looking forward to the end of the treatment cycle so that she can start a new chapter of her life, cancer-free. We are grateful to have such a supportive and loving community in this time of need, and any and all donations are extremely appreciated.
