Help with medical expenses for Debbie Whitmore
Donation protected
A message from the family follows. It will be a long road to recovery for Debbie but we are so grateful for the progress she is making. She will likely continue to need specialized care for months. Because her immune system and lungs are so weak and susceptible to infection, she needs to be in isolation for the foreseeable future and the family will have to quarantine to avoid the risk of picking up any other illnesses and passing them along to her. Mark has been out of work on unpaid family medical leave during this time so he can help with her care and the family is driving several hours to Atlanta daily to be with her. The cost of the life flight and hospital bills are quickly adding up and we would love to take the stress off of the family if we can. All money raised will be deposited directly to the family for medical and travel expenses.
Dear Friends,
Thank you for your support with prayers and financial support during this difficult time.
Debbie has had some serious medical issues over the past four weeks. She went to Murphy Erlanger Emergency room on September 30 with a critical and severe case of bacterial lung pneumonia. The following day, the Emergency room placed her in the ICU unit where she stopped breathing on her own. She was placed on life support and they induced her into a semi-coma. After 5 days in ICU, the doctor stated that Debbie would need to be at a facility that could provide the specialized medical attention, including a lung specialist, kidney dialysis specialist, and a specialized ICU bed to accommodate her with the life support ventilator. After 3 days of praying continuously and waiting for a room to be available, she was airlifted on October 10 to Northside Hospital in Atlanta.
Debbie had a 30 percent chance of making it out of the coma or being able to come off life support. In addition to her lung infection, she developed another infection in her throat and her kidneys began to fail as well. We all prayed for seven days that God would take control of Debbie’s life, and on that Sunday, October 17, God reached down and laid a healing hand on Debbie’s shoulder to lift her out of the coma and to take her off the ventilator. As of the week of October 25, Debbie’s lungs are starting to clear up, but the strong antibiotics have taken a toll on her kidneys. She is receiving kidney dialysis every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
God has been in control the whole time, and has made everything happen in his own time. God supplied Debbie with the best medical staff, nurses, doctors, respiratory therapist, physical therapist, lung specialist, kidney specialist at Northside Hospital. With many tears and prayers for Debbie, she is starting to sit up and talk to us. She is telling us just how good God has been to her over the last few weeks of her life.
I appreciate the support that you give to us to be able to be by Debbie’s side while in the hospital.
I know the continued support and prayers will help Debbie regain her health.
May God bless all of you!
Thank you from Mark, Debbie, Kensie Whitmore!
