Help with Mike Bollman's Medical Expenses
This is Mike. Many of you know him, grew up with him, went to school with him, have worked with him. To know him is to love him! Despite his intimidating 6’7” frame, he’s one of the most easygoing, considerate, and lovable guys you’ll ever meet. He’s constantly joking around to raise the spirits of others and is the first person his friends call when they need a hand. A son, a brother, and an uncle, Mike also has four amazing kids (ages 6, 10, 15, & 19), who can fill his face with more pride and joy than you can imagine.
Unfortunately, a recent incident put Mike in the hospital. We, his family, started this page because he’s going to need a lot of help, more than we can provide, to get him back on his feet (literally). He’ll also be trying to recover in the coming months financially from the ambulance, ER, & hospital bills, not to mention the inability to work for several months.
So here’s what happened: On Friday, July 2, Mike traveled from his home in Oklahoma City to Tulsa, in eager anticipation of being a groomsman in his friend’s wedding the following day. After the rehearsal dinner, as the evening of celebrating came to an end, Mike left to walk back to his hotel. Being only about a block from his destination, he really didn’t think much about walking back by himself.
That was when a great evening took a terrible turn. Two men, with nothing but bad intentions, spotted Mike walking alone and began to follow behind him. Mike noticed them behind him and quickly picked up speed. They then ran after him carrying a gun and demanding his wallet. In a last-ditch effort to get away from his pursuers, Mike ran and leapt over a roadside barrier to what he thought would be a short drop.
Instead, Mike fell over 20 feet from the street overpass to the pavement below, ultimately breaking multiple bones in his legs and ankles, to include a compound fracture on his right shin. Even while Mike was laying on the ground in agony, the criminals still came and took his wallet from him. They then ran off, leaving him to yell for help until someone heard him and called 911.
As shocking as it all is, Mike’s story is one that could have happened to anyone. He is a great guy, who was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Like most of the people in our family, Mike has a lot of pride in doing things for himself. Not wanting to burden others, he’s not one to ask for help. But all of us know just how quickly medical debt can pile up, and that’s exactly why we’re reaching out to friends and extended family now on his behalf.
Since COVID hit last year, Mike has had a hard time getting work in the oil field. As a self-employed contractor, limited work and unsteady income means that he has not been able to pay for private insurance. Lack of insurance coverage and financial hardship will undeniably make this situation that much more difficult to overcome.
Please consider donating to help Mike get through all of this. Although he has qualified for partial financial assistance from the hospital, there will still be an overwhelming mountain of medical debt for him to overcome. Our goal is to cover his regular monthly bills for the next 6 months and contribute as much as possible towards his medical expenses. Any amount, no matter how much, will be SO greatly appreciated. Every little bit helps!
Most importantly, please send prayers, love, and positive thoughts his way as he faces the coming months. We’ll continue to share updates along the way. Just know that any support that you can give means the world to us, and to Mike!
We've had some requests for additional ways to donate.
