Nicole's Recovery Fund
Donation protected
Update: March 18, 2024
Nicole's medical team is very happy with how her skin grafting surgeries are healing, so they made the decision to discharge her from the hospital. Nicole is resting comfortably at home in Red Earth with her children and mom at her side for support.
Nicole still requires extensive physiotherapy before she can undergo her next surgery. She will need to have a family member transport her from Red Earth to Slave Lake at least 3 times per week (at a minimum) for treatment, which is an hour and a half drive each way,
Funds continuing to be raised will help her cover the cost of travel expenses to make it to her medical appointments and physiotherapy treatments.
Nicole and her family thank everyone for helping ease the financial strain of travel, so she can focus on her recovery without worry.
Update: March 7, 2024
Nicole wanted to personally thank everyone who has donated to her GoFund me to date. All of your support is greatly appreciated, as this is helping her support her 4 children while she remains in hospital.
Nicole‘s medical team said she is healing well from her skin grafting surgeries so they made the decision to transfer her. On Saturday, March 2, 2024 Nicole was successfully air lifted from the Foothills hospital to the Slave Lake hospital, which is closer to home. She will remain there until she can walk on her own unassisted and will continue to receive medical care and have physical therapy treatments for the next couple of months.
Nicole misses home, so she is happy to be closer to her family. Her children are only 2 hours away now so her mom will be able to bring them to see her more often while she is recovering.
Update: February 16, 2024
Nicole has successfully undergone her 10th surgery and the doctors said her body is responding well to the skin grafting. Nicole said the procedure is very painful but she is now able to sit upright in her bed. Physiotherapists have assessed her so she can begin treatment in the hospital. She will still require more surgeries to fix the tendons in her other leg, but is making good progress.
Hello,
My name is Ashley and I am fundraising on behalf of my cousin Nicole, who is a first responder, to help with her recovery. Nicole is my first cousin and I have been lucky to have her as a my close friend since childhood. Unfortunately her life was drastically altered after an unexpected accident occurred.
On January 16, 2024, Nicole and her four children were travelling back to their home in northern Alberta, when she was in a serious car accident outside of Airdrie. Nicole was rear-ended, which sent her car off the highway into the ditch and her vehicle rolled over.
Thankfully all of her children walked away from the rollover unscathed but Nicole sustained life threatening injuries. EMS were first on the scene and rushed her to the Foothills hospital immediately, where she remains today. To date she has undergone 9 surgeries to repair her legs. The doctor’s expect that Nicole will stay in the hospital for at least another month and will undergo a few more surgeries before she is released. They have told her she will still have many months of recovery ahead of her, which will include regular physiotherapy and other treatments, as part of her rehabilitation. It will be a long time before Nicole is able to return to work and this will greatly impact her ability to provide for her young family.
Nicole is a single mother to 4 children (ages 7 - 16), who are away from her right now and are being taken care of by their grandma. Nicole has minimal benefits to help cover her expenses while she is healing, so please consider donating to my cousin's recovery fund, so she can focus on the road ahead of her.
Anything you are able to donate would be sincerely appreciated. Funds raised will go towards helping Nicole cover expenses for her and her children while is off work for the next year.
Our family extends a heartfelt thank you to all those who donate. Your kindness and generosity will make a difference to Nicole and her children during this difficult time.
Sincere Thanks,
Ashley
