Urgent cancer treatment for Prince
Donation protected
Hi friends. A lot of you will know Prince. He’s a well loved pup in Glasgow and beyond, and truly a ray of light for everyone he meets.
A few weeks ago our beautiful boy Prince developed what the vets at first thought was an infection in his hind right paw. The swelling didn’t go down with antibiotics and got worse, causing him a lot of pain. Tests confirmed it was an aggressive mast cell tumour - we found out that it has spread to Prince’s lymph nodes and he needs emergency treatment.
Last week Prince had emergency surgery to amputate his leg and remove some affected lymph nodes, although some still remain.
Prince then developed an infection post-surgery and had to go back to hospital for a couple of nights, which incurred a bill for £1700.
After surgery Prince started IV chemotherapy which unfortunately he’s had a reaction to and needed to be in intensive care after having two seizures and his white blood cell count dropped. He was in hospital again which incurred a bill of £4000.
Prince is insured but as he already had a mast cell tumour on his leg when we first rescued him 8 years ago, his insurance company are refusing to cover the amputation and ongoing treatment. It’s a huge amount of money currently running at £23,000 in vet bills and still mounting, and we were wondering if anyone may be able to contribute toward his ongoing care.
The amputation was recommended to help make Prince more comfortable. He is doing well with 3 legs and is tolerating the new chemotherapy well. He needs ongoing care at the vet hospital to treat the seizures and in order to make him comfortable, but sadly the long term prognosis isn’t great.
At this stage everything we choose to do will be to make Prince the most comfortable and happiest dog during his last months with us, and hopefully prolong the time we have left. Our first priority will be his comfort - the amounts of money involved in his care are very high and unexpected and if anyone is able to contribute towards the costs of his treatment we would be so grateful.
