The ordeal led to a two-night, three-day hospital stay, revealing not only a blocked artery but also an unexpected birth defect in another artery, uncovering a lifelong battle with heart disease. Growing up in the Hillyard neighborhood, Rick discovered the positive impact boxing could have on disadvantaged kids, steering them away from a life of crime. Motivated by this insight, he pursued a career in professional boxing. After 16 matches, he established his own gym, where he passionately trains and coaches individuals from all walks of life—athletes, everyday individuals, and kids with diverse backgrounds. This includes children and teens from organizations such as Daybreak Youth Services, Crosswalk, and Morning Star Boys’ Ranch.
