My son, William, has sickle cell anemia ss. William is 12 years old and this disease has really affected him and his well-being. William has not been able to enjoy being a kid because of a lot of pain crises since birth. He's constantly in the hospital, he's had acute chest 3 times and now he's currently on monthly blood transfusions to prevent strokes.
William has had a silent stroke and is at risk for strokes so we are currently in the process of going through a clinical trial bone marrow transplant in September. So instead of William going to 7th grade, we will be starting this procedure. This procedure is very intensive with chemotherapy and radiation therapy. His older sister is his half-match donor.
Dad and I will be taking off work to be there every day for him and we will need help financially with household bills and food throughout the stay. We will be in the hospital for 6-8 weeks and the total recovery time is a year.
William is a very smart, strong, outgoing, and very fun to be around. We hope that this procedure helps him to get his kid's life back. We ask whatever you can donate will be appreciated and keep us in your prayers. Thanks in advance.
