Help with Veterinary Bills for Iris

My name is Kristin and I am starting this fundraiser for Dan and Sue Wescom to help cover veterinary expenses for their dog Iris. The unimaginable happened yesterday while Iris was out hiking with her canine pals at doggie daycare. Iris suffered a spinal stroke and collapsed on the trail. Thanks to the quick action of her daycare provider and helpers Iris was able to be brought out of the woods quickly, and Dan and Sue were able to get her to Burlington Emergency Veterinary Services quickly. She underwent an MRI to determine where the issue was. The Neurologist at the clinic says that she has a good chance at a full recovery but it's going to be a long road, as nerve injuries heal much slower than a broken bone or laceration for example. Unfortunately Iris is unable to stand on her own. She isn’t in pain. Dan and Sue are devastated at the idea of losing their beloved girl and are committed to doing everything they can to help her recover. Iris is young, healthy and strong; and when I visited her today I could tell that she is in for the fight it's going to take to get better.

 

The reality is that convalescent care is intensive and will require Dan and Sue taking some time off of work to help attend to Iris's feeding, bathroom, and physical therapy needs. There are the veterinary expenses which are already extensive, and they will like incur more as Iris moves through the mending process.

 

Dan and Sue are always the ones willing to lend a hand, or food, or advice, etc. They would never ask for help. It's a sensitive subject to even accept assistance. During a time like this though, I am certain that our community can rally together to lift Iris up. Every little bit counts. No donation is too small. Every little bit will help defray the veterinary medical bills.
