Help 'X' Start a New Life

We are Soar With Us, specialists in providing Reality Based Personal Safety & Self Defence to victims/survivors of domestic violence.

We are raising funds to train 'X' (for safety reasons she cannot be named) to become a Personal Safety and Self Defence instructor. 'X' arrived in the UK 6 months ago after an arranged marriage. Soon after her arrival her husband and in-laws became abusive. She was emotionally, economically, physically and sexually abused and suffered from severe depression, anxiety and panic attacks. In her own words she described herself as feeling like she "was a body with no soul". Fortunately, she managed to escape the situation and is currently in the safe hands of a refuge. She has no family in the UK and returning to her home country is not an option as her family have disowned her and returning to them would put her life at risk.

During our training session at the Domestic Violence Refuge, 'X' was extraordinarily committed, vibrant and passionate about helping herself and others. During the session she acted as a translator for us. After the workshop she shared more of her situation and expressed a desire to become an instructor in order to help other people in her situation. She intends to use her qualification to run sessions inside and outside of the domestic violence shelters. These classes will provide not only potentially lifesaving skills but also promote health and wellbeing through exercise, camaraderie and a safe space to share. Additionally, this will give her the opportunity to earn an income.
