Help Xander secure safe, stable housing

Donation protected

Hi friends, I’m here to humbly ask our community to come together in support and solidarity for a young 22-year-old fierce activist, artist, and rising talent in San Francisco - Xander Parker. Xander is a trans, latina woman of indigenous descent who is a Bay Area native and is facing eviction as she prepares to begin her transition.

This critical and life-affirming medical process that she needs and is ready to undergo is on hold due to the duress that living in unsafe housing, facing eviction, and having to hold down multiple jobs presents for her in her daily life.

After having been wrongfully evicted earlier in the pandemic from an apartment in the Haight-Ashbury that she saved up for and invested a lot of money into, she has struggled to find an affordable, stable place to live and her current situation has become untenable.

Xander signed a yearlong sublease agreement in a community living arrangement in the Tenderloin with other queer and trans people in March of 2021. The situation quickly became uninhabitable after several break-ins and other issues. On one of the break-ins, Xander’s roommate had to defend herself from a violent attacker at knifepoint. After several of these incidents, despite attempts to secure the building, the master tenant decided to terminate his lease prematurely, forcing everyone to move out by June 1.

Xander is a passionate activist, an advocate for her community, a talented artist, and a kind and loving friend to many. Xander is a creator struggling to stay in the city that offers her the safety and resources to live her truth and amplify others too. From working on Oaklash for several years in a row, to putting on and performing in local drag productions, to her work helping disabled folks as a home health aide, Xander’s impact in this community can be felt far and wide.

She is currently working full-time at Mr. S Leather and reprising her role at the San Francisco Playhouse on June 8, making a total annual income that is finally enough to qualify for her own rent-controlled studio apartment in the city. She has also been working on improving her credit, but with her young age, fixed income, and short credit history, her options are very limited and landlords are demanding larger deposits upfront.

Xander needs stable housing to begin her transition, continue her activism, and maintain her gainful employment in the city. The objective of this fundraiser is to get her enough to pay for her move in funds including initial rent and deposit (total of up to three months of rent altogether) in addition to covering the costs of short-term housing, application fees, transportation, moving, storage, and setting up her new apartment. Any additional funds will go towards Xander’s medical transition. All funds will go directly to her bank account to support her through this challenging time.

Please give what you can and help us spread the word! As we enter this pride month, we should especially consider how we can support each other - particularly the most marginalized among us - so that we may carry forward in that spirit for the rest of the year and beyond. Together, we can make sure our community stays strong and viable. Together, we can step up for our friends when they need help.

Help us help Xander secure safe housing so she can continue to contribute to the richness and beauty of San Francisco for many years to come!
