Help Yashieka get to Howard University

Want to join me in making a difference? I'm raising money for Yashieka Fearon, a young lady from Jamaica who is currently being mentoring through Sol Adventurers Foundation, a 501 c3 non-profit which empowers youth to discover their gifts and share them with the world. We also help bridge the gap between elders and youth, helping to carry traditions forward. We offer mentorship and enrichment programs in California and Jamaica.
So, back to Yashieka, this amazing young lady graduated top of her class from Manchester High School in Jamaica and has been offered a full scholarship to her #1 choice, Howard University but she needs our help to cover all the costs.
I am going to turn things over to Yashieka and let her tell you about herself.
My name is Yashieka Fearon. I graduated from Manchester High School in Mandeville, Manchester, Jamaica. During my 7 years at the prestigious institute, I have made sure to prioritize my school work above anything else. With the guidance of God, I was able to achieve many major accomplishments while maintaining an average of 90% throughout my tenure. In my fifth year, I accumulated 97 graduation points. Because of this, I was awarded Top Girl out of a year group of more than 300 students. I graduated with distinction along with the graduating class of 2017 where I was presented with the award for “Top Student”. Following graduation, in the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations, I managed to attain 9 grade ones (7 straight A profiles) and a grade two in Communication Studies at the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) level. In the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE), I attained four grade ones.
Outside of academia, I am involved in a number of extra-curricular activities. I am the Vice President of the Manchester High School Key Club, where we strive to better our community by participating in several environmental projects islandwide. Additionally, I am the Vice President of the Students’ Council and the Vice President of the Sixth Form Association. I am also the senior manager of the Manchester High School’s champion basketball team as well as the captain of the Girls’ Basketball team, amongst many other activities listed in my resume.
Recently, I applied to Howard University and I was offered admission to this illustrious institution. The tuition and fees, including boarding, is USD 48,080/year. I was awarded a full-tuition scholarship to the institution valued at $27,000 USD. Although a generous award, an estimated sum of $16,930 USD is still required for boarding, meal plan, maintenance, books, visa fees, and flight. The estimates from Howard University, which you see below include housing and meal plan and fees is $15,920. Howard University estimates the cost of books at $1900. We included I-901 SEVIS fee, which is required for all international students and must be paid in order to apply for an F1 Student Visa. We budgeted $500 for her flight. Howard University estimated on their link below that each student will need approximately $1000 for transportation and $2,160 for personal expenses.
$15,920- Howard (Housing, meal plan, fees)
+ $1,900- Book Fee
+ $350- I-901 SEVIS Fee (required for all international students
+ $160- F1 Student Visa Fee

______________
$21,990 USD
Unfortunately, my family does not have the finances to fund my college education. Hence, we are currently in a desperate search for sponsors to aid us financially at this vital time. We would be greatly appreciative if you would be ever so willing to invest in my education and supply us with a donation or sponsorship of any amount. I promise that investing in the education of a brilliant, young dreamer like myself is worthwhile. Your support would be greatly impactful. Thank you in advance and I will be waiting with anticipation for your response.
Sincerely,
Yashieka Fearon.
