Help Yesenia After Assault

I’m writing this for my friend Yesenia Valenzuela As many of you know, she is a happy and beautiful person. It breaks my heart and it feels surreal that something so horrible has happened to such a beautiful soul. On Christmas morning she was almost killed by an ex-boyfriend of hers.

 

This individual not only caused life threatening injuries to her but also vandalized her car. Something she has worked really hard for. Her injuries were so severe that she was left unconscious on the floor/driveway outside of her home. He also took her phone so she couldn’t call 911 for help. She sustained a broken skull, two different brain bleeds, orbital bones fractures, as well as bruises and cuts including injuries on her left eye that is causing her to have vision problems. She had to undergo emergency brain surgery/craniectomy to save her life to due to an excessive amount of bleeding inside her brain. She has a really long way to go before she fully recovers from this.

 

This is why we decided to do this and help her since she is not able to work, drive, go to the gym or do any of the daily activities she was used to doing. She did not qualify for Medicaid and the Crime Victims Services has a cash limit on what they can help with. So for now, she not only needs help with her income due to not being able to work, but also medical bills that are piling up, prescriptions, appointments, etc due to still having to follow up with doctors (neurosurgery, eye doctor, maxilofacial doctor) after being discharged from hospital.

 

Even though this is a sensitive topic, we still decided to speak up about this to raise awareness of the dangers of abusive relationships. I wish we could share more details with all of you but there is an ongoing criminal investigation. This is a difficult time for her and it takes a lot to be able to open up about this so I would also ask if we could respect her privacy. She is aware of all the people that have been asking about how she is doing and she is thankful for all of you, and will get back to you once she recovers.
