Help Yokko and her mother

Greetings Everyone,

We write to humbly ask for your assistance in uplifting one of our most beloved community members. Yokko is a bright light, a fierce force of nature, a creative genius, a dedicated teacher, a loyal friend, and a generous citizen of this world who needs our help.

If you know Yokko, you know she would never ask for anything on her own behalf, so we are doing it for her.

As many might have seen from her recent Facebook posts, Yokko bravely and vulnerably shared her difficult family situation. Her mother, whom she is extremely close with, is heartbreakingly and gravely ill. She has a rare, chronically degenerative lung disease and requires an immense amount of care that Yokko’s elderly father cannot give her.

Yokko must be in two places at once and is flying back and forth to Japan while trying not to lose her adjunct teaching position in NYC. These are prohibitively expensive trips she cannot afford. Being there for her dear mother has taken great sacrifice and used up all her savings. At this point, she is in debt and cannot pay her bills on top of everything else.

Yokko is a brilliant, dedicated, award-winning theatre and Butoh artist. She has touched countless lives through her internationally renowned performances, enlightened teaching, and authentic friendships. She works incredibly hard at everything she does. Please help us return some of her generosity back to her.
