Hey friends and all!
If you don't know me, my name is York and I recently came here from America to continue my career as a writer/musician and to study to be a high school teacher!
On Sunday 28/5 in the afternoon (broad daylight!) I was on my way home from marking some papers in Fremantle, when two guys dressed all in black tried to snatch my bag off my shoulder. I got away from them, but they followed me for three blocks and through a pedestrian underpass. I thought I'd lost them so I stopped to talk to a neighbor about what had happened. Before I could hardly get a word out to my neighbor they flew by at like 40 on the scooter and threw a brick at my head!! Insane!!! Fortunately my neighbor was there to help me out, or I might not have survived.
I'm still in the hospital (UPDATE: just got released!! YAY!!) with a ton of broken bones in my face and broken teeth, but I'm trying to be positive and smile through it! Because I'm a foreign student, I don't have access to medicare and only have insurance which pay for just a tiny bit, much less the face and dental surgery I have to get next week, and I have no idea when I'll be able to go back to work.
Anything you could contribute would be much appreciated!
Hopefully I can get back to teaching as soon as I can. It's gonna be a crazy story for my students. I still love this city despite all the craziness! It could always be worse right?!
