Help Yoshi Bear Live A Long & Healthy Life

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Mikaylla. I am humbly asking for your help in prolonging the life of my furbaby, Yoshi Bear. He is a shih-tzu and is 3 years old. He is also my son, aka my best friend/therapist/clown/nap buddy/pillow and so much more. To some, a dog is just an animal, but I know a lot of other people or furparents can relate when I say that they become so much more than a pet when you spend all your time and energy taking care of that pet.

Currently, we need help funding his upcoming surgeries and past surgeries. A couple of years ago, he had to have emergency surgery to remove bladder stones from his urinary tract. Since then, he hasn't been able to urinate properly. We had planned to put him down in September 2023, but I was unable to do it. I wanted to try more to save him even if I felt helpless. At least, I could feel a little bit better knowing that I did everything I could do for him. Although it would have been a financial burden, I decided to max out my credit cards to pay for his past urinary tract surgeries. Back in Guam, we spent over 5k for surgeries and medicines in an attempt to correct his urinary tract. Since we relocated to Texas, we spent almost 10k to make sure he receives the best care at Texas A&M (TAMU) Small Animal Teaching Hospital. We were able to find the best people at TAMU, who nursed him back to his full health. He was fully recovered in October 2023 and able to properly urinate. We were so happy. My friends and family back home in Guam were so relieved.

On January 13, Yoshi lost his vision overnight. It was such an unexpected turn of events. It was so disheartening especially since we thought he was done with surgeries and fully recovered. We are taking him to a specialist at TAMU ASAP to give him a better quality of life. He will most likely go through eye surgery.

I never knew I could love a pet so much until I raised him. The love that a pet shows you is the definition of unconditional love because no matter what you do, they will always be there to be your cry pillow after a rough day or be so excited to see you after you had to unwillingly leave them at home for hours. We got Yoshi Bear during the COVID-19 pandemic as well as his life partner, Covi D., who is my sister's dog. I had never owned a dog that I could call my own until I had Yoshi. I had so much time during quarantine that we formed a bond so close and loving. After surviving the pandemic, he also survived my many mental breakdowns caused by life's struggles. At 3 years old, he experienced his first typhoon, Typhoon Mawar, when we were back home in Guam. It was one of the strongest and most devastating natural disasters to hit the Pacific and we survived it. He is truly a trooper.

Thank you for reading my story. I hope you find it in the kindness of your heart to help Yoshi Bear. Thank you so much for whatever you're able to donate. Please share his story. Thank you.
