Help Yvonne move to drastically reduce rent
Donation protected
I am a 72-year old retired college professor living off Social Security Retirement Benefits alone. I was recently diagnosed with cancer; and, I will begin treatment next week. To relieve the financial pressures, I have an opportunity to move to an apartment in the senior complex where I live that will cost $600 a month less! This is critical because now I pay 3/4 of my total monthly income just for rent.
Because of my age, disability (I use a cane, walker, and scooter), and side effects from the cancer treatments--I will not be able to pack and move myself. I have no children and have never been married. Therefore, I have to pay for packing as well as for moving, and moving supplies. Since my rent over the past 10 years has taken most of my income each month, my savings have been depleted.
Money donated to this fund will be used to hire packers, a truck and moving supplies, people to do the actual move, and other moving related expenses. I will have to vacate my current residence by the end of December. The support provided through this fund will allow me to drastically lower my rent and greatly relieve current financial pressures at a time when I am going through the stress of cancer treatment. Your assistance in helping me move will be invaluable. I would hate to lose this opportunity because I do not have the money to take care of moving expenses!
Twenty years ago, after working for decades as a full-time, tenure-track, professor at American colleges and universities, I was out of work for two years because of health issues related to a car accident. After exhausting all available benefits, I had to use my pension funds to live off while I recovered. When I returned to work, the profession had changed. I was only able to get adjunct (part-time, no benefits) work that did not allow me to replace money that had been for retirement. Therefore, I live entirely off my Social Security benefits.
There are few words that adequately express the depth of my gratitude for your consideration and support. Your gift will not only help me to move, but to avoid an uncertain future in which my rent may outpace my income just at a time when I am recovering from cancer treatment and surgery. Blessings to you as you consider this request. Thank-you for whatever you are able to do.
