LittleWood Creek
You may see lush tropical grasses, a dream serene spot away from the hustle bustle of western life. The reality of this photo underlies some unimaginably terrifying statistics:
- Approximately 3.6 million Kenyan children are orphans or otherwise classified as vulnerable.
- Around 150,000 of Mombasa's 1 million+ population live in urban slums or on the streets in extreme poverty.
- 75% of the population in the slums live with HIV, leaving many children without parental care.
Our Mission is to give women and children of Mombasa a route to basic human needs; shelter, food, safety, love, belonging and education.
Our Vision to achieving this is LittleWood Creek - a shelter to house women and children who are finding themselves homeless and in desperate situations.
To make this possible we have some huge milestones to reach:
- Nov 24: raise £9000 to buy a 200sq ft piece of land for sale by the Creek
- Dec 24: raise £22,000 to build the Shelter
- July- 25 raise £2000 to decorate and furnish
-Sep- 25: raise £8000 to kickstart hiring, salaries, placing of mothers and children and advance 6 months running costs.
- Feb- 26- open the doors to LittleWood Creek and house our first family
Our Mombasa experience so far:
From building houses for the most needy.. sponsoring a network of over 25 kids working closely with the Jolarabi school and other charities, the Vailes family have been spearheading Mombasa initiatives for over 5 years. The next step is to build a home where we can help change the fate of some of the mothers and children most in need.
