This family is so precious to us and we want to help them in anyway we can and pray that you all will join to help take some worries away by helping them financially fight this battle.
From Zach’s mom:
After what we thought was an ongoing possible knee injury from high school football and Zach falling at work on Monday, October 16, we’re now facing so many unknowns. The orthopedic doctor did an x-ray on that same Monday and found a “suspicious” dark spot on his femur. Another x-ray of the femur was taken and MRI was done. The results of the MRI was “Aggressive lesion in the shaft of the left femur with periostitis, bone destruction and an extraosseous mass consistent with a Ewing’s tumor or Osteosarcoma.” After being referred to UAB Oncology for a biopsy, it was confirmed that Zach has osteosarcoma. He is scheduled for a bone scan, chest CT, echocardiogram and more bloodwork on Monday, November 13, to make sure the cancer hasn’t spread to any other areas of his body. We will meet with his oncology team that same day as well. Then on Friday, November 17, Zach will be admitted to Children’s Hospital in Birmingham for his port placement and begin chemotherapy.
As of now, the plan is Zach will receive two full cycles of chemo treatments, then sometime the end of January he’ll have surgery to remove his femur and place a metal rod in its place. Once healthy enough from surgery, he’ll start back chemo treatments. We will continue to remember this is just a season and God is the greatest hope we could ever hold onto. But no parent ever wants to see their child suffer. Ryan and I feel so helpless, it’s a feeling like we’ve never experienced or wanted to accept. But we will stay positive and focused on this fight. And we all will be right by Zach’s side every single step of the way. #ZachStrong️
