Help Zach Kelly pay his medical bills

You’re 25 years old and the prime of your life is still ahead of you. You've got your college degree and you’ve been working as an EMT – a job you love – for a few years now.  You have your sights set on becoming an Oklahoma City Firefighter. Helping people in urgent situations has given your life purpose, and you look forward to everything life has in store for you.

This is Zachary Kelly:  a man every bit as charming and easy-going as you would expect from someone with life at their fingertips. Zach, like myself, also has a passion for motorcycles. Summer evening rides on his Suzuki GSXR make all the effort put into his education and career worth the investment. For many of us in the motorcycling community, it is difficult to accurately describe the feeling we get from riding. For me as a superbike racer, there's nothing like the smell of race fuel when you pull into a racetrack. If you asked Zach, he'd tell you he lives for the few moments before he takes off for a ride. For Zach, the thrill is in the anticipation of the ride. Hearing the growl of his 1000cc in-line 4 warm up as he straps his helmet on and takes his seat to reacquaint himself with the machine.

On August 30, 2018, Zach’s hopeful future took a sharp, tragic turn.  While out for a summer evening cruise, Zach was run over by another driver in Oklahoma City. The car abruptly changed lanes into Zach and he was thrown from his bike. Thankfully, Zach's helmet kept his head safe, but he was still left with 6 broken ribs, 6 broken vertebrae in his spine, and a broken left foot. He was taken by ambulance to OU's level 3 trauma center and later admitted to the hospital. Since then, Zach has been working hard toward recovery, but he needs further medical care and therapy.  And, though Zach does have health insurance, it only covers part of his medical costs.  Even now, with such a long road still to go, medical bills and co-pays are adding up that Zach simply can't afford. Making matters worse, Zach has not been physically able to return to working as an EMT since the crash, pulling him further into a financial black hole.

My name is Cody Gayer, and aside from being an avid motorcyclist and racer I'm also an attorney in Oklahoma City with the firm Parrish DeVaughn Injury Lawyers.  Zach came to my firm in need of serious help. While Zach was not at fault for the collision, the at-fault driver did not have insurance, leaving Zach with no viable options to help get him back on his feet. That brought me to start up this page:  I'm desperately trying to get help for Zach and hope to raise funds to cover his outstanding bills and future treatment so he can get back to helping others as an EMT.

Neither I nor my firm are seeking compensation of any kind for our efforts to help Zach.  None of the funds donated will go to me or my firm; 100% of funds donated will be given directly to Zach or his medical care providers. Simply put, for me and my firm, this isn’t about making money – this is about making something right for someone that deserves it.  We are starting this campaign by making its first donations; we hope you’ll join us.
