Help Zane Get his Life Back

Zane Hamilton is an amazing guy who needs help. After waiting over seven years in excruciating pain, four nearly completely bedridden, Zane received a miraculous and life saving spinal reconstruction surgery. Even with the surgery, without additional help Zane will not get the care and therapy he needs to make a good recovery. He has contracted Covid 19 and continues to endure a complicated recovery. This is a situation where even a few dollars can go a long way for a guy who really deserves a helping hand.
This ordeal started for Zane in the winter of 2015/2016. Zane began seeking relief for a spinal problem. Up until then, Zane was flying high and putting all his focus into a new business. His condition continued to deteriorate despite physical therapy. Doctors recommended surgery.
Things went from hard to hellish when the initial surgery left Zane worse off then before. The morning of the surgery Zane’s surgeon was inexplicably changed to a junior surgeon. Unfortunately, the new surgeon performed the wrong surgery, fusing Zane’s spine incorrectly.
Zane was left in excruciating pain. No medication, no intervention did much to alleviate his agony. What made matters worse, the doctors didn’t tell Zane the surgery was a failure. Instead, they told him to do more physical therapy and that his pain was his problem. The extra physical therapy made his condition deteriorate even more. Bad surgery, and more bad advice left Zane hopeless and with no prospects for recovery.
After losing his business and being left unable to work, Zane was forced to sell almost all of his personal possessions to stay afloat. Unable to leave his apartment, he often relied on the kindness of neighbors to help him take out the trash or get groceries. The loss of employment and mobility attacked him from one side while medical bills from the very doctors responsible for his predicament attacked him from the other. Zane was forced to sometimes decide between keeping the heat on or buying medicine.
In the summer of 2021, after years of grinding life out in lonely agony, an unimaginable miracle occurred. A series of random acquaintances and circumstances put Zane in contact with a retired, world renowned spinal surgeon who had recently moved to Zane’s area. This retired surgeon had literally written the text books on spinal surgery. This chance meeting reignited Zane’s prospects. Further medical evaluations confirmed the surgeon’s conclusion that the first surgery had been terribly botched. On seeing Zane’s scans, one doctor concluded that if left alone Zane would be at best paralyzed or dead within five to ten years.
The retired surgeon put Zane in contact with a state of the art spinal clinic in Minnesota. The head surgeon in Minnesota, who is world renowned himself, agreed to perform a risky revision of the bad surgery.
In April of this year, the new surgery was performed. Due to the degeneration caused by the first surgery, the new fusion was even more extensive. Despite having most of his spine now encased in metal, the second surgery means that for the first time in almost seven years, Zane has a Second Chance at life. Despite the incredible amounts of pain required to recover from such an ordeal, Zane is pushing hard everyday through intense physical therapy.
Insurance required Zane to return to his home state of Utah for recovery. The plane ride back from surgery experienced heavy turbulence. To make matters worse, Zane contracted a bad case of Covid-19. As a result, Zane is having a tougher time getting through recovery then he initially planned.
Zane lacks sufficient resources to pay his portion of the physical therapy, rehab costs or the costs that will be required to travel back and forth to Minnesota for essential follow-up appointments.
Zane is a fighter. He’s spent the last seven years watching friends achieve dreams he had to let go. He has no wife or kids, his business is gone, he has nothing left, but an incredible tenacity to get better. Zane has been a trail blazer his whole life; raised by an impoverished single, mom and four little sisters he was the first person in his family to graduate college. He’s been a volunteer his whole life, serving a two year church mission at 19, and mentoring kids from similar backgrounds to his. When the pain left him unable to meet in person, he continued these charitable activities from his bed.
The surgery to repair the damage was extremely invasive. Zane continues to require skilled nursing and will require months more of intense physical therapy assistance. The costs for the surgery and the recovery are far beyond his insurance. Zane lacks the resources and is drowning in bills. He has little family support. Zane Hamilton has a real shot at getting a normal healthy, life. He can see the light at the end of a horrible dark tunnel. He needs a little help to walk the last few steps into the light. A small donation or simply sharing his story can make a world of difference for Zane Hamilton. Thank you!
