Help Zhamir Recover From a Spinal Cord Injury
Donation protected
Hello everyone my name is Keicia Place and have set up this fundraising page on behalf of my young cousin, Zhamir Denbrook-Pitt. Zhamir is the son of Justin Denbrook and Sierra Pitt. The lives of Zhamir’s family have been turned upside down. On July 26th 2023, Zhamir, just 17 years old, suffered a horrific accident.
Zhamir returned to Bermuda during college summer break for a few weeks to spend time with family and to enjoy the Cup Match holiday. Twelve days after arriving, the unthinkable happened. On a very dark road in St. David’s, Zhamir lost control of the cycle that he was riding, collided with a traffic median, and sustained life-threatening injuries which included breaking his cervical vertebra, C3, C4 and C5 and also sustaining severe spinal cord injuries.
A few days later Zhamir was air evacuated to Lahey Clinic and rushed into lifesaving surgery while the family waited anxiously, in the UK and Bermuda, overwhelmed with despair. On arrival in Boston, the doctors informed them of his extensive injuries.
The Neurosurgeon has recommended flying Zhamir back to the UK to undergo extensive rehab at the earliest opportunity. This will mean additional costs for another Air Ambulance to transport him. UK-based medical rehab centers are on the cutting edge of technology and advancements with injuries such as Zhamir’s. The earlier he starts therapy will increase his chances of a full recovery. Zhamir will need specialized medical care and therapy to improve his condition after his tragic accident. The extensive treatments required for any chance of recovery come at a significant cost that they cannot manage alone. A traumatic spinal cord injury is an incredibly expensive condition that requires around-the-clock care. In addition, the family will have costs relating to doctor visits, hospital stays, home modifications, transportation or an accessible vehicle, and spinal cord injury physiotherapy treatments.
Together, let us show Zhamir’s family that they are not alone in this struggle and that our community stands united to support them during this unpredictable and trying phase. Your support will provide them with the strength and resources they need to focus on what truly matters – Zhamir’s recovery and the well-being of his beloved parents, siblings, and family.
Thank you again on behalf of Zhamir, his parents, grandparents, and his entire family, and from the bottom of our hearts for taking the time to read Zhamir’s story. Your compassion means the world to this family. If you feel moved to contribute in any way, please know that we are endlessly grateful for any act of generosity or kindness.
