Help Zoey beat Lymphoblastic Leukemia!
Beth Moye (Holly) has been a best friend of mine since diapers! Growing up together in Gahanna, Ohio, I was always so impressed with Beth’s ability to persevere through life’s toughest challenges. She was a tiny little blonde firecracker blessed with athletic ability like I had never seen! Whether hitting home runs in softball or receiving a full ride volleyball scholarship to Iona College in New Rochelle, New York, it was clear Beth was unstoppable! Beth earned her Degree in Economics and has created a phenomenal career for herself working in operations at a large banking firm. Beth has two sweet little girls, Zoey and Sierra, and an awesome husband, Morgan! We are all so proud of the women she has become and they family she has raised!
It was in March of 2016 when I received a call from Beth that brought me to my knees. Her Daughter, Zoey (4 years old at the time), was rushed to the ER with severe leg pain and fevers. Hoping to hear it was a broken bone, a bone biopsy revealed Zoey had acute lymphoblastic Leukemia and treatment would last for 2.5 years.
At the time, Beth was a single mother and sole financial medical provider for both Zoey and Sierra. Completely devastated by the news, family and friends did whatever they could to support Beth and her family as we all knew it would be the most difficult 2.5 years of their lives.
Zoey’s head oncologist wrote Zoey and her mom, Beth, this letter as they began their battle together:
"It's hard to capture Zoey's essence with just words. I think you have to see her smile that lights up her eyes to appreciate her joyful spirit, and hear her sweet chatter to understand her lively mind. I remember squatting by her hospital bed and explaining that her white blood cells were sick, and I saw her eyes become round with fearful thoughts. Zoey had previously told me that she wanted to be a pediatric oncologist when she grew up so that she could take care of other kids - not something you hear every day. So I asked her to become my partner and help me beat her leukemia. As she bravely faced the implications of her cancer diagnosis, she accepted this "job" as my helper. I promised to teach her everything I could so that she would be well on her way to becoming a pediatrician, but in truth she teaches me.
Zoey is truly kind and compassionate. She forgives us quickly after unpleasant pokes, prods, and procedures. Even when she is scared, she bravely faces each challenge. She shows so much love to the staff, that everyone is drawn to her. Zoey doesn't allow her diagnosis to define her - she embraces the joys of everyday moments and shares that joy with everyone around her. It is a blessing to know her.
I hate cancer and I hate that cancer has touched Zoey, but there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that she will kick cancer's . . . with her pink boots. This will only be one chapter in her incredible life story. Love, Dr. Bell”
Zoey’s fight would be long and hard but her vibrant and strong-willed personality gave hope to all around her! Zoey lost all of her hair, ability to walk and was very sick with nausea and pain. She was removed from school and isolated from much of the world as it was very important that Zoey stay healthy and strong through her treatment. Sierra, 2 ½ years old at the time, continues to be Zoey’s biggest supporter. Sierra has been through a tremendous amount herself as she couldn’t understand why she had to be away from her sister, why Zoey couldn’t go to school with her and why Zoey was always too tired to play with her?
Zoey successfully completed treatment May of 2018. Unfortunately, during her 1 month post treatment blood check, her blood platelet counts were low and she had swollen lymph nodes. She has received additional testing and the counts continue to drop. While Beth and her family are hopeful this is Zoey’s body trying to recover, the thought of relapse is constantly on their mind.
Beth and her family have raised nearly $40,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Make-A-Wish and St. Jude’s just last year.
The Warner Family has decided to do something for Beth and her family as they continue to battle through this disease. Please help Brittany, Jeremy, Cole, Evan and Reed Warner support the cause in raising funds to assist with the ongoing medical bills and treatment that Beth and her family continue to endure. Prayers and thoughts go out to Beth, Zoey, Sierra and Morgan. We love you all very much and will do anything we can to help you get through this.
