Help Zola Fight Bone Cancer
Donation protected
Hi there! My name is Amber and I have had Zola since she was about 6 weeks old. She is about 8 years old and has always been our baby. Back in December of 2023, my mom came home from being out of state for work and Zola had begun to act strange. She would randomly vocalize, and would hide and seemed uncomfortable. We called our vet right away and had her seen, we started Gabapentin and carprofen for pain. A couple of days after our physical exam, we began to notice a small bump right below her eye. I called our vet again to have her seen and we thought she had a tooth root abscess and booked a dental cleaning and abscess draining for a couple of days later.
Unfortunately, when they went to take X-rays, we found out that Zola did not have an abscess, and that she had Proliferative Boney Swelling under her eye. We biopsied it and it came back as reactive bone, which is unfortunately pretty common in bone biopsies and bone cancer in dogs. We did a month of antibiotics, blasto testing, and the biopsy to rule out any infection. Fast forward to now, the mass has increased in size and we decided to meet with an oncologist to see if there was anything we could do to further help our girl. The oncologist suspects osteosarcoma of the zygomatic arch as a cause of the mass due to the first biopsy being inconclusive.
In order to get the ball rolling, we also need to have the mass aspirated to get that diagnosis and then the Oncologists referred us to UW Vet Care in Madison. There we would need to do a CT scan to determine the size and location of the mass, and then start radiation therapy to slow down the growth of the tumor and hopefully buy us some more time with our girl. We were quoted about $3,000 for the CT and $3,000-$4,000 for radiation therapy. I am asking for any financial help, well wishes & good vibes as we navigate our future with Zola.
