Box is Quitting! (Smoking, that is)
Donation protected
You know him as the lovable, silly, slightly rowdy DJ that gets you to work every morning on The Bridge at 1055, and makes your middays bearable on 98Rock. You probably also know there are few things Box loves more than his "breathing treatments" - Slayer, tattoos, and Johnnie Walker Black coming in at a close second.
So, you can imagine how ecstatic we are that after months of begging, Box has finally agreed to quit smoking. But, in true Box fashion, he's willing to give it a shot only if he can give back to the Charleston community with his efforts.
Here are the nuts and bolts:
We will be collecting money starting on Cyber Monday through the week of Christmas.
For every $1,000 that we raise on Go Fund Me, Box will commit to another month of going smoke free, starting Jan 1.
The money that we raise will go to MUSC.
Box will also be entering the Quit & Win contest, and if he wins, he'll split the $1,000 award with MUSC.
We will be working with Dr. Cummings, a professor at MUSC and the person behind the Quit & Win contest, as well as other experts/former smokers to share with our listeners the biological and psychological things Box will be going through or dealing with as he quits. We will also be discussing tips for dealing with cravings.
We will feature these guests in regular segments on Box in the Morning - tune in every weekday from 6am - 10am to follow his efforts. We'll also be posting regular updates on The Bridge Facebook and Twitter accounts.
Giving credit where it's due: This idea stemmed from the awesome folks at MUSC, and the Post & Courier Quit & Win contest. If you're a Charleston smoker, please enter the contest as well!!
