Carly Bailey is standing for election in Dublin South West for the Social Democrats.

Before joining the party, Carly was an activist who campaigned about the housing crisis, access to higher education and disability rights including children with special needs. Carly ran the campaign to open an Educate Together secondary school in Dublin 24 and was co-convener for the Dublin South West Together For Yes campaign.  Carly is studying law and political science at Trinity College through the TAP (Trinity Access Programme).

"Too many people are seriously affected by the housing crisis in Ireland. In Dublin South West, housing is a key issue on the doors. We need a rent freeze, security of tenure for renters, public and affordable housing for people across income brackets and homelessness prevention policies that work put in place immediately while supply catches up."

"Access to education is vitally important. There are many issues that need addressing. The cost of sending our children to school is too high, despite the fact that we have a constitutional right to education. The threat of student loans must be fought and our higher education institutions publicly funded. We need to re-imagine apprenticeships and on the job training for young people. We also need to ensure that we pay an adequate living wage to ensure our young people can afford to stay in Ireland and that families can live their lives."

"I believe that we need more women in politics. For too long, our needs and requirements have been ignored, as well as those of our children. The fight for reproductive rights is far from over and we need to ensure the rights we have fought so hard for are not lost in the future. Childcare is still the most expensive in Europe. Parental leave is still not adequate enough to allow families to choose the best option for them."

Carly has worked tirelessly since then to draw attention to the plight of the locked out generation and needs financial support to contest the next general election in Dublin South West.

Carly believes that the people want change, equality and fairness, good public services and affordable living.  She wants her children to have a better future and to grow up in a community that cares about the young, the elderly and everyone in between.
