Help Eli Walk!

"Mommy, what if I fall? Oh, but darling, what if you fly?"

We can help Ian and Heidi Hutton with their dream to support their children in reaching their full potential.  Heidi and Ian are caring, loving parents who have adopted three children.  Their 3rd child, Eli, joined the family in September 2014 at age 2.  When Heidi and Ian received the call that Eli’s birth mother had chosen them, they didn’t hesitate in welcoming Eli into their family even after finding out he has cerebral palsy.  They believed their family was meant to grow with Eli and looked forward to providing Eli with a loving mother, father, sister and brother.

To my surprise, adopted parents of special needs children are not given any financial support to care for their children.  Even after medical insurance there will still be a large financial strain on the family. We have the opportunity to help this wonderful family with Eli’s surgery and his dream to walk.

On October 19th Eli will be going to Seattle Children’s Hospital to have Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) surgery. It is a surgery done on the lower spinal cord to reduce spasticity (high muscle tone) in the legs.  The goal of the surgery is to relax the muscles by identifying and cutting the nerve fibers that contribute to spasticity.  Eli will be in the hospital for approximately one month for intense therapy.   Heidi will have to take a month off work to stay with Eli in the hospital. He will undergo 3 hours of physical therapy a day.  After he goes home he will be doing 3-4 days a week of outpatient therapy for 12 months.  It will be a long and hard road for little Eli but worth every bit to help give him a better life and the independence of walking.

These funds will support the family with medical bills,  therapy appointments and medical equipment for the next year.  Not worrying about the financial burden this operation could put on Ian and Heidi will make the recovery a little bit easier.  I hope through this Go Fund Me page, Heidi and Ian can focus all their attention on Eli through his recovery and Titus and Riley.  If at all possible, I ask that you show your support for this AMAZING family and little ELI!  This life-changing event will forever change Eli’s and his family’s life!
