Help Emmaus House Move

Donation protected
Three years ago Emmaus House was all but an idea. Only months into the making, we had no idea what our future looked like, if a home like this would actually even work. But we felt like we needed to take a leap of faith. And we have been abundently blessed by your continuous prayers and support.

We at Emmaus House have not been perfect, not by a long shot. Just as any home, we have had our issues. But for a house with 16 (at risk) young adults under one roof with only two parents to raise them all, really, we have done quite well. Still, there is always room for improvement.

Our youth have spent a majority of their lives growing up in an institution rather than a home. On the brink of adulthood we have always believed that each one of them deserved the opportunity to experience what it is like to be a part of a family, to have parents, and to enter the next stage of their life with the security of loved ones by their side. With this in mind, we have tried our best to create the most stable and supportive home environment possible at Emmaus House under the direction of loving house parents. But with 20ish people living a house, it has often been challenging to meet everyone’s individual needs.

As a start up organization, we have done the best we could with the resources blessed to us. Until this point, we financially have only been able to afford to operate one house. Actually, we still can only really afford to operate one house, but God has blessed us with enough stability that we are confident it is time to take yet another leap of faith.

This summer Emmaus House will be changing. Instead of renewing rent on our current property, we will be renting two smaller homes in the same neighborhood- one home for the boys and one for the girls. And we will be hiring a new housemother (who I am so excited to introduce) to oversee the girls' home.

The reasons for this transition are vast. So many teenage girls and boys living in the same house was never our long-term plan, for obvious reasons. But at the heart, we at Emmaus House believe healing and growth begin best inside a loving home that is focused on Christ and his Word.

Our prayer is that smaller homes will give our youth the opportunity to have their individual needs met in a way they may not be now. We also hope that our house parents will be better able to minister to the youth in their home with smaller numbers. And because the needs of girls and boys are often so different, we believe this move will help us focus on their specific needs as they move forward to adulthood.

Emmaus House will still remain one program. We will still be one big family. The houses we are renting are just a stone’s throw away from one another. We will still meet together for devotionals, training classes, church, service projects, and tutoring. The only difference is that the girls will live in a home under the direction of their housemother and the boys will live in a home under the direction of their house parents.

Our long-term plans for Emmaus House remains the same. We still hope that one day we can purchase land and build a property of our own, which will include multiple small homes as well. But until that time, we are confident this move will help guide the program in a more sustainable direction.

We have already been blessed with the finances to pay rent for our 1st year on the two houses, which we are so thankful for. But we are in need of support to help furnish the additional home as well as cover the monthly expenses for a second home.

We are hoping to raise $10,000 for our move this summer. Below is a breakdown of this amount. We will be sharing more information throughout the week on the two homes and introducing our new housemother. Please consider helping and always, one of the best ways to help is to share with your friends.

Thanks, always, for your support.
