Help Urgently Evacuate 400 Rescued Animals to a New Haven
Donation protected
There are almost 400 rescued animals at a Colombian animal sanctuary facing an urgent situation. These animals need your immediate support to be safely evacuated from a drought-stricken farm with depleted pastures and scarce water and food sources to a new sanctuary where lush green pastures await them.
Urgent Appeal: Support Namigni Animal Sanctuary's Critical Mission
Hello, I'm Pedro Mateus, a dedicated vegan and passionate animal advocate based in Portugal. I'm reaching out to raise funds for Namigni Animal Sanctuary, located in Colombia (www.instagram.com/santuarioanimalnamigni), and also legally incorporated in the United States as a 501(c)(3) under the United States Internal Revenue Code.
Founded by my friend Miguel Aparicio four years ago, Namigni has grown to become one of the largest animal sanctuaries in the Americas. However, the sanctuary has been devastated by the severe impacts of climate change and the "El Niño" phenomenon. A year-long drought, water scarcity, and dry pastures have left the sanctuary in desperate need of assistance.
Global Collaboration: These Animals in Colombia Need International Support
As Colombia is not a country from which a GoFundMe campaign can be directly launched, we've partnered to launch this fundraiser from Portugal, where Miguel is from. Our sole objective is to gather support and send all raised funds to Colombia to aid in this urgent evacuation effort.
Current Situation at Namigni Animal Sanctuary
The situation we face is undeniably severe. Well over 100 cows and bulls, including those rescued from the bullfighting world, numerous disabled farm animals cherished by our community, nearly 20 equines, 50 sheep and cows, 7 llamas, 18 pigs, almost 50 dogs, 6 cats, 20 rabbits, and hundreds of birds find refuge within the protective walls of Namigni Animal Sanctuary.
Climate Change Immediately Threatens 4 Years of Sanctuary Milestones
Established amidst the challenges of the pandemic, the sanctuary recently celebrated its fourth anniversary. In this time, it has not only provided sanctuary to these animals but has also shifted societal perceptions of farm animals. Moreover, the sanctuary has facilitated the transition of four dairy farms away from animal agriculture, offering a retirement haven for their cows, and has spearheaded numerous rescue missions for large animals across Colombia, garnering attention from media outlets in Colombia, the US, Portugal, and China.
Navigating Challenges: Urgent Support Needed for our Sanctuary
Despite these achievements, the sanctuary operates in an environment where resources and support are scarce, compounded by the challenging landscape for animal welfare in Colombia. The founders have dedicated themselves tirelessly to the well-being of the animals, but the current situation has reached a critical juncture.
Urgent Appeal: Help Us Secure a New Sanctuary Home
We turn to you now for assistance: a sprawling farm with expansive green pastures has been identified as the sanctuary's next location. However, we urgently require US$50,000 to cover the considerable transportation and transition expenses, and now to secure access to the farm where we need to move the animals. Given that Colombia is a cattle farming behemoth, we're being pushed to raise more because we're seeing that this cattle ranch that we want to turn into a sanctuary requires significant funds to be secured for the animals. The financial strain of meeting daily needs leaves us unable to shoulder these costs alone.
