Hello America from Achrafieh (الأشرفية), one of the oldest districts of Beirut, Lebanon !!!
My name is Martin Mahfouz, and I live in Achrafieh. I am partnering with WCAT Radio to raise funds for the families that have been displaced. On the 4th of August 2020, the day of the Beirut Port explosion, we witnessed the destruction of Beirut, the capital and the largest city of Lebanon and one of the oldest and most important cities in the world, known for its cultural diversity and its history extending back to before the time of Christ.
More than 2000 tons of Ammonium Nitrate exploded, killing over 200 people and injuring over 5,000, some of whom now have permanent disabilities. Not to stop there, the explosion destroyed 75% of the city, including residential homes and small businesses, and damaged the port.
We are in great need of relief to rebuild our city and would be grateful for a donation to this fund drive. Money raised by WCAT Radio will be sent by Sebastian Mahfood, the station's owner, via Moneygram to me here in Achrafieh, and I will distribute it directly to the people who need it most. It will help repair the windows, doors and walls of our homes and businesses in the most affected and poorest neighborhoods in the area of Achrafieh, where neither the government nor the press are showing interest.
From Beirut, I extend my heart to the world.
Thank you!!
Martin Mahfouz
Member of the Lebanese Christian Association "BWRA" (Beirut Will Rise Again) and in cooperation with the Catholic Church
More information about WCAT Radio through which Martin Mahfouz is organizing this fund drive: We are a St. Louis-based, 501(c)(3) Not-for-Profit Internet radio station (EIN: 83-4447144) developed as an en-air branch of En Route Books & Media for the purpose of promoting the Catholic spiritual journey through quality Catholic programming. Part of the spiritual journey involves embracing pro-life activities that support the fullness of life, so this kind of fundraiser is mission critical for WCAT Radio.
