Help for Kai
Kai is my nephew, who recently turned 12. He needs our help!
In an effort to bring some understanding to the situation, let me tell you a little bit of his story.
My sister Diana and brother -in-law Wayne have 6 children. They are an amazing, God-loving family. Five of their children were adopted from the local foster care system here in Jacksonville, Florida. Kai is the youngest boy and he is number
5 in all 6 kids. They are a single income family who chose to sacrifice so Diana could be at home while she cares for and homeschools the kids. Anyone who knows them will tell you that they are wonderful children!!!

Kai was born a fetal alcohol syndrome child and was also exposed to drugs and the aids virus. His first months were difficult to say the least.
Thankfully he has always been negative for hiv and is free from that possibility. However, it is the alcohol exposure that has proved to have a lasting negative impact on him.

At the age of 3 he developed severe seizures, which would extend until about the age of 4. 10 to 20 seizures a day were the norm during that season of his life. He did recover and the seizures eventually stopped and Kai became a very intelligent and talented child. He plays instruments, sings, is an amazing dancer, crochets, knits, and is at the top of his class when it comes to school.
With all this going for him, something horrible would slowly develop and show up with what can only be described as explosive and terrifying......
In May of this year, Mother’s Day weekend to be exact, Kai began having these extreme rage episodes that would prove life altering for the whole family. Since that day Diana and Wayne have been on a mission to find Kai help from doctors who really understood his situation.
Kai was diagnosed with Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder (DMDD). Which for most incidents relates back to alcohol exposure before birth. You can find out much more about DMDD at this link:

Currently he is again in a local mental health stabilization facility here in Jacksonville for his 5th time.
We are hopeful in that Diana and Wayne have found a facility that specializes in Kai’s type of disorder and they have a really strong success rate working with kids like Kai.
Meridell Achievement Center in Austin, Texas. Kai will be admitted hopefully on the 10 of December. He will be admitted for a minimal 90 day stay. www.meridell.com
Here’s how you can help us help Kai.
First , Please Pray for him and the entire family.
Would you consider giving financially to them to help make this happen for Kai? He needs our help and I am asking if you can give any amount possible.
Diana, Wayne and Kai have to travel to Austin next week. Followed by mandatory monthly trips for Diana and Wayne to visit him. Then a final trip for all three when Kai comes back home.
When you put together plane fares, hotels, food, etc you can see how the cost of getting Kai help will be quite large just for the travel aspects alone. (This first trip of plane fares are 700 each.)
Would you share this with anyone you think might have a heart to help them.
This is something that is much bigger than our family, though we are doing everything we can to help them. Kai is such a sweet and loving boy and we so want to make sure he gets the help he so desperately needs.
Thank you for standing with Diana, Wayne, Kai and the entire family. We are all so very grateful for your prayers and generosity.
God Bless You,
Laura
