Helping Alta Verapaz affected by hurricane Eta
Donation protected
Guatemala was hit hard this past week by hurricane ETA, causing devastation to many communities across the country. This includes my wife’s hometown of Cobán, Alta Verapaz and the surrounding area. As a Peace Corps Volunteer from 2002-2005, I was fortunate to live and work in Tactic and San Cristobal Verapaz, both of which have also been affected.
The hurricane has caused massive flooding, resulting in some villages completely under water. People have lost their family, homes, and all their possessions. We feel helpless being so far away but want to help out however we can.
We are raising funds to help out with the emergency response including getting food and other basic necessities to those in need. We will work with reputable organizations in the area to ensure these funds get into the right hands.
The recovery effort and rebuilding will take some time. Any amount helps.
