Helping Amethyst & Ari Escape Financial Ruin
Donation protected
Friends, family, and strangers on the internet, allow me first to thank you in advance for taking the time to read about the need for GoFundMe.
For those of you who don’t already know us, Amethyst and I have been a couple for nine years. Amethyst is currently working as a Registered Behavior Technician with developmentally and intellectually disabled children and was just accepted into a Masters's program for her ABA Degree. I have been an EMT for the last 13 years, and I work an average of 60-72 or more hours a week to support our family of five rescue dogs and us.
When not working, Amethyst and I are avid dog lovers that work with one of the oldest dedicated Siberian Husky Rescue organizations on the East Coast. I have served as a board member for the organization while both of us have volunteered hundreds of hours of our time over the years to do dog evaluations, transport and, of course, fostering. Amethyst and I have personally rescued and adopted six dogs as a couple and have successfully fostered five other huskies. Together we have assisted with or participated in over 50 dog rescues in the last five years.
Amethyst and I are both very proud and independent people by nature, so the fact we have even gotten to this point of casting such a wide net as to make a GoFundMe, in our request for assistance, is far from our proudest moment. Still, we appreciate your willingness to listen and possibly help.
At the beginning of this summer, Amethyst responded to a job ad that appeared to offer her the challenges and opportunities she most sought on her path in behavioral therapy. The prospective employer told her she had the job and encouraged her to leave her then-current employment ASAP. Unfortunately, the job actually being offered was nowhere near the description, in work or compensation, of the job she thought she had been offered. She was fortunate to be able to return to her former job, but that doesn’t start up again until the fall, as she had already been replaced for the summer by her former employer.
This was the start of our current financial issue, as Amethyst has various monthly expenses such as her student loans, medical debt and medicine that can’t just be pushed off and would have to be made up for via our savings and my working even more overtime than usual.
Because of this, I have worked no less than 72 hours in a single week for eight weeks straight. Including two weeks with over 100 hours. I can’t keep doing that. Physically, mentally, and emotionally, it isn’t sustainable for anyone long term. Especially not someone with a history of multiple lower back surgeries.
If that was all we had to pay for, then the extra hours would have covered most of it. However, when it rains, it pours, and we have had one significant unexpected household expense after another. Over two thousand dollars in expenses on top of the nearly six thousand in total expenses that had to get made up for because of the absence of Amethyst's expected income for those 3 1/2 months.
Amethyst is doing what she can, (picking up babysitting jobs and dog sitting/walking jobs to put as much away as she can for her bills coming up), but we are quickly reaching the point where our savings will be gone entirely, and we just literally won’t be able to pay the bills that are coming.
So that is our story. We are embarrassed even to be asking, but we need your help if you can afford it. We have always tried to prepare, plan, and make sound financial choices. And yet. Stuff happens. The two largest appliances that just broke on us were both only a few months out of the warranty. We’ve had the worst luck lately, but if we can only make it through these next couple of weeks until the income from her working again starts, we will be okay.
With our savings now almost completely gone we are genuinely worried about what will happen if we can’t pay these upcoming bills. We are so close to the finish line regarding financial stability… Can you help us get through this last series of unfortunate events?
Please know that we appreciate any assistance you can provide. Also, any excess funds after the bills are paid for August and September will be donated to a local Siberian Husky Rescue.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story. We are eternally grateful to those who are able to, and choose to, help us and our fur-children in our time of need.
