Helping Amy Fight Cancer

Hi, My name is Amy Medrano from Abilene, Tx. and this is my story. Several months back I noticed a lump in a very peculiar area of my body and went to get it checked out. As with any Dr. Visit my mind started racing, little did I know that that little lump was going to cause such big problems. I had tests and scans run and wouldn't you know it. CANCER! I was immediately terrified. So many things were going through my mind, I mean because that is what happens when you are fine one day and the next you are suffering from something as horrific as Cancer. They diagnosed me with Colon Cancer, stage 2. I am grateful that it is only stage 2 and there are options to get it removed. This is why I am here. Let me start off by giving you my treatment options and then the financial obligations for each option. I am here to raise the money for the most effective option.
Options:
1. Surgery - A most effective way to remove the lump and clean out all cancer.
2. Chemo - A less aggressive way to remove cancer but it does come with side effects and it can be a slow process. not to mention the success rate of total removal.
3. Radiation - A very aggressive method that is painful but more effective than chemo. Still not 100% sure of the completer removal.
Now onto our financial obligations for each method.
1. Surgery - The surgery will cost 6k out of pocket. The insurance we have will cover the rest of the surgery. (praise God). We must have at least half to schedule the surgery. A big expense but it is the most effective way to remove the Cancer I have. A 6mo recovery process will accompany the surgery. I won't go into the details, but it does mean I will have a part of my colon removed.
2. Chemo - I had taken chemo as a preventative measure but it was in pill form. That was covered by our insurance. I am not sure which type the Dr will prescribe me while I await surgery. If it is the same type, then I won't have to worry about the cost. If it is a different kind, there may be a cost associated with it.
3. Radiation - This comes with a big price tag, but less than surgery. We have a cancer center here in Abilene and they have resources to help with these costs. We were awarded assistance for the Radiation Treatment but not surgery. They felt like it was not life-threatening, so they would not cover any part of the surgery. We are thankful that this is an option.
The bottom line is, Cancer is a destroyer of the body and We want it removed so I can pursue the many things life has to offer. I want to be able to see my children grow up and graduate High School. I want to spend all the moments with my family and enjoy life. I want to travel and see places and visit friends and family all over the world. I want to know that Cancer will not stop me from reaching my goals and dreams. By you helping, you are assuring that the things that get taken for granted are not. I just want to live and live life to the fullest.
This is my story, my prayers are that through your generosity I can continue to live cancer free and enjoy what life is in store for me and my family.
Thank you,
Amy M.
