VOLUNTEER SERVICES UNIT
Partners for Youth works with children who are “at risk” of becoming delinquent and children who are in the Criminal Justice System. Our goal is to provide adult volunteer assistance as mentors and role models for children and offer individual and/or group educational, cultural, social, and recreational opportunities that allow children to build friendships and rapport with interested, caring and supportive adults.
This Program operates with a commitment to the concept of volunteerism, and as such, our primary objective has been to develop a viable coalition of dedicated volunteers to work with our troubled youth. We work toward this objective through the recruitment and training of community members to work with our youth.
Children who become involved with the Juvenile Justice system often seem to lack a positive adult role model with whom they can identify and from whom they can receive needed emotional support. Our mentoring program seeks to address this void by utilizing volunteers on a one-to-one basis when they are matched with a youth for a period of one year.
Throughout the year, the mentor meets with his/her mentee weekly and provides a healthy and productive relationship. Our program provides enrichment activities and gift cards so that the mentor and mentee can spend quality time together. However, we must rely upon donations and fundraising events for all mentoring activities. We can solicit donations through the 501(c) 3 non-profit organization of Bexar County Partners for Youth.
Adolescence is a time rife with change and confusion. To experience this crucial growth period without any emotional support can be devastating. In recognizing and addressing the need for this support among our troubled youth, our volunteers serve a vital community function. With the help of concerned citizens, these youth can become healthy, productive members of our community. Today, we would like to ask for your support, of any amount, that can assist us in changing more lives.
Respectfully,
