Helping Betty, FightHerFight

Hi, my name is Kerry Lenihan and I’d like to let you know sometimes you meet people, at the right time right place, sometimes people cross our paths and we’re not sure why.

The person who has recently crossed my path was my mentor during mentorship and to say the least she touched my heart and all the clients she cares for! Beyond measure I have witnessed how much her clients miss her if her schedule is sometimes with new clients, and the joy to see on their face it’s her when we arrive. She has been serving Dartmouth for 28yrs as a caregiver, in home-care. Always going above and making sure her clients receive the best care.

Along side of her compassion at her job, she also takes care of her Husband Mike as he fights his concurrent battle of blood cancer. This has led to Betty being the primary person to keep the house going and making sure the bills are being paid. She knew she had to put everything for herself aside as she knew this was important part of her husbands sickness as he gets his own appts & rests. That’s not all, She is raising her now 12 year old granddaughter from since she was born. She is the apple of her eye, there is no denying the love and care they have for each other.

sadly, she went to emerge at Dartmouth general in pain the night of January 4, 2024 with many tests they admitted her. She was alone during all this as her son was at their home taking care of his dad, her husband. 2 days following she received the most scariest news she has kidney cancer that has spread to her lungs and liver. As she awaits more tests, she’s been lost in her thoughts, exhaustion, worries not able to care for her family or her clients as the pain most times is unbearable. With all she had gone through in 2023 after loosing her dad in June , being the first Christmas without him and caring for her sick husband she now is feeling everything anyone understandably would.

Today I ask for help with what is going to be Betty’s biggest fight! I’m hoping to relive some of the financial stress for her & her family as they face all this together as a family. We know being with family is best cure, but also knowing that they are warm, have meals, medical expenses, making sure car payment gets paid along with gas to make sure she can attend the tests/appointments as the team comes up with a treatment plan for her as they live outside the city, basic necessities of life are the top priority of my hope to help. God knows she’s ready to fight so let’s come together and help her in her fight and relieve the extra financial burdens as doctor has put her off for an estimated 9-12months for now until the team comes up with best treatment plan going forward.
