Helping Chris Reay

My mother, Julie Reay, passed away on Christmas Eve due to complications with COVID after spending over a week in the hospital. I’m channeling my shameless fundraising inner Julie and creating this GoFundMe after multiple people have reached out wanting to assist our family financially.
As many people know, Julie was the breadwinner in the family. She worked as the Executive Director at HomeAid Inland Empire (a non-profit organization that builds and renovates homeless facilities) and my father Chris would assist with certain projects and events, earning minimal income for his work.
There is now a lot of uncertainty with the living and working situation for Chris, and he will likely be moving to Kansas where housing and living costs in general are much more affordable than in California. Chris’ 91-year-old mother, Maureen, lived with them as well, and we are unsure where she will end up living (possibly with my brother Sean and his family).
My parents unfortunately had a bit of debt, not a huge life insurance policy, and there is additional uncertainty with what will happen with hospital bills from Julie’s stay there.
I would like to stress that this GoFundMe will be strictly used for costs that are not associated with the memorial service, as Julie requested that everything with the service remain cost effective and not extravagant. Julie’s siblings are wanting to make sure memorial service expenses will be covered by them.
It’s a little tough asking for help from friends and family (and possibly strangers), but I know my mom wouldn’t have been too proud to ask for help, so neither should I. Thanks to everyone in advance for your care and compassion.
