Help Claire Heal

On Sunday, November 29th, Claire McFadden Patire suffered a severe acute asthma attack. Claire, a 40-year-old mother, wife, daughter, sister, and friend, asked her husband Rick to call 911 and now has no recollection of the 2-mile ride to St. Mary Medical Center. Upon her arrival at SMH she was in respiratory distress and was intubated and put on a ventilator. A CAT scan revealed Pneumonia but no sign of Covid-19. Claire remained on life support for 8 days.
Because of hospital restrictions our only lifeline to Claire was via phone calls to the nurses and doctors caring for her. On Wednesday, December 2nd, Claire’s doctors attempted to wean her off the ventilator with no success. After 3 hours off the ventilator, she was again heavily sedated and put back on life support. The following Friday evening her pulmonologist and anesthesiologist in a “last ditch effort” to keep Claire alive asked Rick to consent to a procedure that neither had ever done but were knowledgeable of successful case studies. Because Claire was in critical condition and very fragile, they felt that the benefits outweighed the risk. Her family could only wait by the phone for word that Claire had survived the procedure, and by the Grace of God and an outpouring of prayer, she did. On Sunday morning her doctors and nurses began the slow and methodical process of weaning Claire off the ventilator and by Sunday afternoon Claire was awake and able to breath on her own! Claire was told that she would need approximately 7 weeks in rehab but by Wednesday afternoon the hospital & rehab center were filled to capacity with the uprise in COVID-19 cases. Because Claire had again tested negative to COVID-19 they felt that she would be “safer” at home. Claire came home on oxygen and will receive Home Health Care and PT until she can recover, or her benefits run out.
Claire is expected to be out of work for some time and so we have set up this fundraiser to allow Claire & Rick to focus on her healing and not on the unimaginable medical bills that will be forthcoming. All monies raised through this fundraiser will go toward medical bills, food when needed and any other medical emergencies that may arise.
The McFadden and Patire family thank all of you who have reached out with love, support and prayer for Claire and Rick. In these uncertain times we know that so many are struggling and ask that you only consider a donation if you are able. Most importantly we ask that you continue to keep Claire & Rick in your prayers.
