Help Constantine Recover
Three days ago a Chinese student and friend of mine was cowardly assaulted for walking down the street speaking another language. This is Constantine, and he's one of the nicest people I've met, and it's been a privilege to train and fence with him. Now that's all over, he won't be fencing for a long time. The coward who attacked him, spewing racist trash and telling him to speak English, smashed a huge section of his cheek bone, and he's going to need serious and expensive facial reconstruction surgery to keep from losing the eye.
Constantine traveled from China to Australia to learn historical fencing and this is what Australia has given him. I'm just gutted for him. He was worried sick about his family in China facing the coronavirus, and now something as bad has happened to him.
Constantine needs immediate surgery or he faces loss of the eye. He is going into surgery very soon, but he faces a huge out lay because he is not an Australian citizen. Victims of crime have been notified, but we face a long wait before he gets any recompense. Funds will go towards his medical expenses and recovery, and a gift from the historical fencing community for him.
NB: thankfully the assailant was stupid, coming back to the scene of the crime, and was apprehended by police. We are hopeful justice will prevail.
For reference the fees he has to pay are as follows:
Dr Cheng: $2000
Anaesthetist: $900
Hospital : $6,500
*Please note the above fees are estimates from the hospital.*
Constantine's full name is Siran Li, and he will receive funds from the appeal directly.
