Helping Dale Barashes Honor his Dad's Last Wishes

Donation protected
Today, my wife and I have set out to help raise money and physical support for our friend Dale J Barashes. Dale is a friendly, outgoing and proud member of our community who is going through a very rough time in his life, one in which he recently lost his mentor and best friend in life, his Father!

Dale and I met through our neighborhood social media page, where he was looking to borrow a portable AC. With us living in the hurricane capital of the world, we had a brand new one sitting in our garage. I sent Dale a message and told him that he was welcome to borrow it. A little later in the day, Dale dropped by to pick up the AC. It was very apparent that Dale had something weighing him down. We talked a little as he loaded up the AC, and continued to talk through social media. In talking more with Dale, I learned he was a man of pride who did not like asking for help, but needed to in order to meet the request of his Dad. The AC was being used to help his Dad who was terminal in home hospice. His Dad wanted to watch the fireworks on the 4th of July one final time, but there was one problem… the Florida heat!! I learned Dale was borrowing the AC to help cool off his back porch which would allow him and his Dad to share a final 4th of July. To see a man go to these lengths to spend this last special moment with his father, filled my heart with joy. Just so everyone knows, it was a success and Dale and his father shared that last special 4th of July together watching our neighborhood fireworks!!!

Often in life, we only see part of the picture…just the part we have been involved with directly. However, since that late June afternoon when Dale and I met, we have continued to talk, and with this I have learned a lot more about Dale and the struggles he has really been facing. After learning these struggles, I felt God pulling at my heart strings to help in any way possible. So, I am sharing with you a few of these struggles in an effort to try and raise some support for Dale so he can honor his father’s last wishes.

In recent months, Dale learned that a family member, his Dad’s “caretaker”, was not taking care of his dad, but himself by stealing from the very man he was responsible for helping. Bills were not being paid, including the mortgage, which was now several months behind. Before learning everything that was going on, Dale provided money to his father monthly to get items fixed around the house, however that was never done either. In an unfortunate turn of events, Dale has been furloughed until at Least December from his job due to COVID-19, but this allowed him to start helping his dad and unmasking everything that was going on. Using all of his savings and 401K, Dale was able to get the bills caught back up leaving him the AC repair and a few other repairs around the home. No longer having a job has made making ends meet very difficult. Instead of focusing on all the negative, Dale chose to focus on spending quality time with his DAD!

On August 9th, Dale's half Brother, Mike, died suddenly. Now Dale is completely on his own, and officially got severed from his Job effective Aug 31 due to Covid. Dale has lost 2 close relatives within weeks of each other. Not only that, I have now learned that his mom suffers from Dementia and is in the hospital with Covid(not showing any symptoms, thank the Lord) but is fighting MRSA in a hip joint. His half sister Handles most all of her affairs but it is still Causing him a lot of stress on top of everything else.

On 17 July 2020 at 9:23pm, Dale’s father Eugene “Buddy” Barashes lost his battle with Leukemia, leaving this earth to be with the Heavenly father. His final wishes were to have his ashes spread across Arlington National Cemetery, Scranton, PA Cemetery where is parents are located and Birmingham National Cemetery where his son Scott was laid to rest. This would require driving/flying to each location, food, hotels and gas to make this happen. Having recently lost his job, spending all his savings and 401k to repair the damage caused from his brother’s actions, Dale no longer has the money to honor his dad’s last request. As family, friends and community, let us unite together and help Dale successfully honor his father’s last request, and maybe just maybe even get the AC repaired. I know times are tough for everyone right now and money is tight. However, money is not the only way we can help Dale. He is currently working to get the family home ready to sell and is packing it up. If you have a few moments to help, please reach out to him and lend a hand. At a minimum, reach out to Dale and let him know you’re thinking of him during these rough times. Dale, your family and friends are here to support you!!
