Helping Dan Goode through recovery

We are reaching out to you for help for our loved ones Dan and Patty (Nana) Goode.
Dan’s tough journey started on Wednesday, May 15th when he began experiencing extreme abdominal pain and was admitted to Island Hospital in Anacortes, WA. After spending 7 days in the hospital where doctors worked to manage his pain he was released and later diagnosed with auto-immune pancreatitis. Later in July (17th), Dan visited a GI specialist as a follow-up where a CT scan was performed and a 9cm pseudocyst was discovered growing around his pancreas. On September 17th, Dan began having more intense abdominal pain and was admitted to Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett, WA where doctors discovered the pseudocyst had grown to 15cm. Once discovered, doctors performed an endoscopic procedure on September 19th to place a stent to drain the pseudocyst. He was later released to work feeling better with no restrictions.
On the evening of September 23rd Dan woke up to get ready to go to work feeling cold and shaky before moving to the bathroom where he began vomiting blood. Patty immediately dialed 911 and Dan was rushed to Whidbey General Hospital by ambulance. In the brief moments at Whidbey General doctors determined Dan needed surgery immediately and he was airlifted to Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett, WA where surgeons began performing immediate life saving surgery to control massive internal bleeding. After multiple blood transfusions (to the point they ran low on his blood type) surgeons were miraculously able to find the source of trauma and stop the bleeding. Doctors worked through the night attempting to stabilize Dans vitals and he was placed in a medically induced coma to recover.
It was later determined his injuries occurred due to a catastrophic set of circumstances where the stent placed to drain his cyst eroded into his portal vein causing the massive internal bleeding.
Dan spent the next 11 days in ICU. He has had numerous surgeries to repair his stomach, drain his pancreas and spleen (both currently not functioning), insert a feeding tube and more permanent location for IV access, and 3 drains. Due to the surgery on his stomach, (at this point) Dan will require tube feedings for approximately 4 months before another surgery (possibly) is performed that will allow him to try eat food by mouth. Doctors have also discovered multiple blood clots and he is on blood thinning medication as a result.
As we are writing this, Dan is currently on a medical surgical floor with no finalized date of discharge working on recovery.
Going forward, both Dan and Patty will need your thoughts love and spiritual guidance as Dan continues to recover. Patty has been travelling back and forth from the hospital to her home (65 miles each way) to spend most waking moments with Dan. In addition to the mounting medical expenses, once discharged, Dan will require in-home health care, many follow-ups and travel expenses, and possibly future surgeries. Due to his Pancreas not (currently) functioning Dan will also be insulin dependent.
While all of this seems daunting, Dan has shown us he is an incredible fighter and we have no doubt he can make it through this. He is a loving husband, father, grandfather, co-worker and friend to so many people that love him and are rooting him on through recovery.
It is with a humble heart that we reach out to you all for help. Whether it be a donation, thought, prayer or help in spreading the word of Dan’s situation we are eternally grateful. All money raised by your generous donations will be used to help pay for Dan's mounting medical bills, future treatments, care and rehabilitation. Thank you for taking the time to care.
