In Loving Memory of Dexter Samuel
It is with profound sadness that I share the news that Dexter has passed away. His journey was one of remarkable courage, resilience, and a spirit that refused to give up. Despite the challenges he faced, Dexter continuously defied the expectations of his doctors and fought bravely until the very end.
Dexter was a man who loved life deeply. His passion for cooking brought joy to so many—whether it was through the meals he prepared with care or the recipes he perfected with love. He had an insatiable curiosity and amazement for the world, finding joy and wonder in every corner he visited. His generosity knew no bounds, and his love for his family and friends was evident in every interaction.
Dexter gave so much of himself, and in his final months, he felt the incredible warmth of that love and care returned to him.
To everyone who supported Dexter—through financial contributions, visits, calls, and texts—thank you. Your kindness meant the world to him and brought him immense comfort. He cherished the moments of connection, and it reassured him that the love he so freely gave to others was deeply felt and returned in his time of need.
We are currently finalizing details for Dexter’s memorial, and I will provide an update as soon as they are confirmed.
Thank you again for being part of Dexter’s life and for supporting him in his journey. Your care, love, and generosity made an immeasurable impact.
If you wish to extend condolences to the family. Dexter’s cell phone is with his sister, Deidre. Feel free to reach out to her.
May he rest in peace and thank you again.

Dexter Samuels is one of the most generous and selfless persons that you would ever meet. He is originally from Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) and migrated to the New York where he became a chef through his hard work, tenacity and diligence. Before this diagnosis, he worked as a personal and restaurant chef.
As he walked along this path to becoming a chef, he always looked back to help people along the way. Since his diagnosis, there has been an endless stream of people who show up for him because he showed up for them. He shows up for others without asking and expecting nothing in return. That's who he is.
Here are some words to help you know who Dexter is :
- "Dex enrolled and paid for my son's extracurricular activities - whatever he did for his own - he was willing to do for someone else."
- "Dex always gave people their flowers - he was proud of others accomplishments and wanted to see as many people achieve their dreams. He would show up for them in many ways - through financial help and by being present in person or being available through a call or text."
- "Dex would help with food, and clothes for anyone in need - helping single moms, and families facing a temporary struggle that needed help."
He still thinks of others even as he goes through surgeries and treatment. He remains optimistic and is committed to fighting this diagnosis, and his medical team at Baylor is working along with him to fight against this diagnosis.
We're now asking for help to cover medical expenses, and any supplemental care that he could need as he fights this diagnosis. We'll keep any donors updated on his progress and we thank everyone for contributing, praying and showing up - it means a lot to him.
