Helping Douglas Rebuild

Hello, my name is Gale, and I am fundraising for my brother, Douglas. Suddenly and tragically, in the middle of the night, his house was burning above him while he lay asleep in bed. For what I can only call a miraculous act of God, while he lay asleep unbeknownst to him of the tragedy that was happening around him, the brave firefighters were rescuing him.

Douglas recently made a life decision to improve himself and his outlook on his own life. He had just moved to North Carolina to begin his new journey. Douglas started a job with a group of people who show the kindest southern hospitality. He began to feel he was on the right path and surrounded by positive energy. Then, he found an amazingly peaceful and community-oriented neighborhood to call home. He would sit on his porch, enjoying the birds and the tranquility of a yard with trees that he could call his own. The morning light through the bay windows. A place he could start anew.

This fundraiser is important because I want to give back to Douglas, my brother. Douglas is the 6th of 7 children, and anyone from a big family knows the youngest are always being taken care of. Well, regardless of being one of the youngest, he has stepped up to help out no matter where or when the help is needed. Douglas is someone who loves life with a boisterous and joyful personality. And anyone who knows Douglas knows that even though he can be boisterous, his greater strength is his willingness to have your back no matter what. He has traveled long and far at the drop of a hat to help his family and others, and now he needs the help. I could say he lost everything, but he is alive; glory to God. However, he has lost ALL material possessions (his car melted in the garage, clothes, furniture, office equipment, t.v., grill and garage tools, sentimental valuables, personal belongings he has had since middle school... all of it... gone). Getting back on his feet will take the help of others.

In this awful situation, there has been an overwhelming pouring out of family, friends, and just people whose kindness and generosity are overflowing with wanting to help him. I am setting up this page as a way to funnel all the generosity in a way that best supports him right now.

The funds donated will be used to start rebuilding his life. He is in a hotel room right now with a donated duffle bag to his name. Your donations will help rebuild a home life for him, help to feed him and start him back on a path to recovering from this horrible loss.

Amid all this tragedy and loss, he took a moment to remind himself and us:

Philippians 4:6-7 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
