Speech Therapy for Elwood!

Meet Elwood! He is an extremely silly, empathetic, wonderful little fellow with a speech disability. Elwood loves snowboarding, rock climbing, camping and hiking with his parents in Utah, and is so, so cherished and loved by his family. He has an expressive language disorder that makes some aspects of life a little bit difficult. But his parents have helped him access all of the resources Utah has to offer unique children like this, including private speech therapy and special education preschool classes.

At the moment El has a pretty thorough schedule. He goes to a wonderful Japanese preschool every weekday, attends three hours of special education preschool two days a week, and attends private speech therapy for an hour every Wednesday. As both of El's parents work full time, it's quite a lot to keep up with! It has been beautiful and exciting to see Elwood's speech improve since starting private speech therapy, but he still has a long way to go. El's speech therapy costs $400 a month at the moment (one hour/week, every month), adding up to $4,800 per year. Insurance does not cover this, so his family pays out of pocket. Between these costs and his main school system which costs $650 a month, it all adds up! His family does all they can to help their sweet little fellow get the help he needs, while also maintaining some sense of normalcy by having a lot of time with neurotypical peers.

For this incredibly loving, working class family, a bit of extra financial help for their little one would make a huge difference!
